Model Railroading Shows

York Train Show is the semi annual model train show sponsored by the Eastern Division of TCA.  Normally, shows are held in April and October of each year at the York Fairgrounds in York, PA.  Scheduled for October 19-21, 2023

VA Area Railroading Museums

Town of Shenandoah Museum and Welcome Center  is located at 507 First Street, Shenandoah, VA.  The Town of Shenandoah Museum and Welcome Center houses an extensive collection of items showcasing the N&W railroad, town history, and the USS Shenandoah.

The Town of Shenandoah Welcome Center and Museum further spotlights the town’s railroading roots.  The building is adjacent to the Norfolk Southern Railroad — the only working railyard between Hagerstown, MD and Roanoke, VA — offering sights and sounds for train enthusiasts.The Welcome Center and Museum is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.  The facility is closed from noon to 1:00 p.m. each day. 

 

The Virginia Museum of Transportation is located in Roanoke, VA. and has an extensive rail yard with historic steam and diesel engines, cabooses, and other rail equipment. Inside the Museum you can find model trains, hands-on exhibits,  antique automobiles, and train, truck, bus, and aviation exhibits!

The Wilmington & Western Railroad Museum is located in Wilmington, DE. and provides steam excursions May through December.  Charters are available from a caboose to a full train.

 

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad (WMSR) is located in Cumberland, MD. provides a variety of steam excursions from February to December.  You can bring your bike and take advantage of the Great Allegheny Passage instead on returning on the train.

 

Steamtown USA is a national Historic Site located in Scranton, PA.  Operated by the National Park Service, Steamtown is dedicated to the preservation of steam locomotives and their history.

 

The CASS Scenic Railroad State Park is located in Cass, WV. which operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  In addition to the museum and excursions there is a locomotive shop tour available.
